Dose he not realise if USA pulls out of NATO
USA will be one of the country's he is talking about and NATO won't help.

He spouts the Putin line on most issues. I am just waiting to see if he is going to echo Putin's latest accusation of Poland being the aggressor who was responsible for starting WW2.

I my opinion, it is that America could not pull out of NATO, because to do so would be to the detriment of the American military, because basically NATO is American, and many NATO bases have uses other than to counter the Russian threat.

Then there is the American Military Industrial Complex, that is very important to the American economy, as are links between the various Military Industrial Complexes of the other NATO countries, the militaries of the NATO countries are so entwined with each other, that if America left, it would be like a form of military Brexit.

But in it's simplified theory, the present NATO countries without America, would be more than capable of not only defending, but beating Russia in a future conventional war, and ourselves and the French could do a lot of damage to Russia in the event of a nuclear war.

NATO also has problems of disunity.

Apparently Viktor Orbán passes all of Nato's details/plans/working arrangements etc to Putin, and readily vetoes anything that Putin would not like.

(PS he is PM of Hungary, not Turkey as Trump seems to think)

There is big backlash brewing over Trump's NATO comments LINK

He has said the same thing in the past. At least this time, he said it in a way that attracted comments in the media.

That said, although alliance with our neighbours by means of NATO may be desirable, I do not think we should depend on it.

I can understand reluctance of the Septics to again see their young men dying in European wars.

We could also find ourselves differing in how we see our interests. (Remember 1956: Suez)

We need to have a credible defence capability. USA/NATO usefully enhancing it.

Whoever becomes the next US President will have to ensure that more of the military cost of defending Europe is borne by Europe.
